For mothers and others interested in environmental health.
As Tenured Professor of Preventive Medicine, Dr. Claudio works closely with local community-based organizations to combat health problems. Her studies on asthma revealed that rates were 21-times higher in low-income minority neighborhoods as compared to those more affluent. This information provided communities with evidence to support interventions focused on the neighborhoods that needed them most. Dr. Claudio has worked as a liaison between community leaders, academics and industry to address the health effects of environmental pollution, bridging the gap between scientific experts and community leaders.

Consulting and Workshops
For researchers, leaders, magazine editors and others needing assistance with writing original science or medical content or editing existing content.  
Dr. Claudio has provided consulting services to a wide range of individuals and organizations. Most of these activities involve producing scientific writing. Examples are:

• Project Design and Grant Writing: Dr. Claudio has developed projects and written NIH grant proposals (P30, RO1, R25 and K awards) for research institutions and community-based organizations. Services include writing drafts, editing, proof-reading, compiling sections from different collaborators, developing evaluation protocols and other services tailored to the client.
• Science Writing: Translation of scientific and medical findings into language that can be easily understood by a general audience are particular strengths. Dr. Claudio has written many magazine-style articles such as Prevention and Environmental Health Perspectives.

Dr. Claudio’s work is currently supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health. She has previously received grant funding from Ford Foundation and New York State Assembly.

Training and Mentoring
For students interested in pursuing graduate studies, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty who want to lead careers in academic science or medicine.
Dr. Claudio devotes a significant portion of her time to training students and postdoctoral fellows to succeed in science and medicine. Her dedication is reflected in the number of students she has mentored (over 280 students) and the success these students have in their careers. Dr. Claudio has received a number of prestigious awards for her achievements in science and medical education.
